Bloodfever (Fever #2) by Karen Marie Moning

WARNING!!! This book is for ADULTS!!! (18+ I'd say) So be warned and all that. Also there may be spoilers if you didn't read the first book.

Bloodfever
(Fever, #2)

Author: Karen Marie Moning

Publication: October 16th 2007 by Delacorte Press (first published 2007)

Goodreads summary:

I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who'd get married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae. Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic.

When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I've learned about myself, I know I have the power to get it....

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them....

My Review:

This book is just plain awesome. Enough said, but I'll say more anyways. Bloodfever is the second in the fever series (The first is Darkfever that I also reviewed). Mac is faced with new and old adversaries in this book and she totally rocks! Mac is probably one of the best heroines that I have followed in a book. Karen Marie Moning did a wonderful job of making Mac a believable character. She wasn't infallible or perfect at what she does. I think her character make-up is wondermous (although I don't care much for bright pink :P)! (Yes Wondermous is my new made up word so there). One thing that I am dieing to know is What the HELL is Jericho Barrons!!! I'm in the middle of the third book and i still don't know but I do have a prospective that I do not feel like sharing just in case. This book is the shiz and I recommend it to any ADULTS out there who like action and adventure (with a little romance thrown into the fold).

P.S. Sorry it's taking me so long to post but I started a new job and it sucks, so forgive me please!!

Marked (House of Night #1)

Marked (House of Night #1)

Authors: P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast

Publication: May 1st 2007 by St. Martin's Griffin (first published 2007)

Goodreads Summary: The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends

My Review: I really liked this book even though it's ANOTHER Vampire finishing school type deal. I still can't get enough Ha Ha. The main character is super exceptional and humble which is definitely NOT new but I like that they counter balanced it with attitude and sarcasm. (After all sarcasm is my middle name). Usually with the exceptional/humble types, a lot of the time you see them as kind of a push over or easily taken advantage of (kind of like Lissa in Vampire Academy). So that's one thing I really liked about this book is that she could take charge and think for herself.

There was some problems I had with this book too, there was a lot of convenient things that happen in the end. Like people just HAPPENED to be there at the right time and someone just HAPPENED to make a huge mistake at the end when it seems like they had been training and doing the thing they made a mistake on for a few years. But you know it is what it is and you'll understand what I'm talking about it read/have read it. One other thing is that I could tell sometimes when it was the mother writing and the daughter writing and boy does the mother hate saggers and tight-jeaned emos lol it was pretty funny, but that also made it hard to sting the story along properly; It was very hard for me to see and hold onto the images while the writing style changed.

Over all though I really enjoyed this book and recommend it, you just have to kind of smooth over the seams so to speak. I'm currently reading the second one called Betrayed so once I finish that one I'll also put it up on here. So far it's good but I haven't read that far. I give Marked a good 3.75/5 (yeah three quarters, what!) love you guys!

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Howl's Moving Castle

Author: Diana Wynne Jones

Publication: August 1st 2001 by Eos (first published 1986)

Goodreads Summary: In the land of Ingary, such things as spells, invisible cloaks, and seven-league boots were everyday things. The Witch of the Waste was another matter.

After fifty years of quiet, it was rumored that the Witch was about to terrorize the country again. So when a moving black castle, blowing dark smoke from its four thin turrets, appeared on the horizon, everyone thought it was the Witch. The castle, however, belonged to Wizard Howl, who, it was said, liked to suck the souls of young girls.

The Hatter sisters--Sophie, Lettie, and Martha--and all the other girls were warned not to venture into the streets alone. But that was only the beginning.

In this giant jigsaw puzzle of a fantasy, people and things are never quite what they seem. Destinies are intertwined, identities exchanged, lovers confused. The Witch has placed a spell on Howl. Does the clue to breaking it lie in a famous poem? And what will happen to Sophie Hatter when she enters Howl's castle?

My Review: Howl's Moving Castle is not only a totally amazing movie but a book as well! In fact I kind of like the book better but the movie was fantastic as well. I watched the movie first but when my sis bought the book I just HAD to read it. It's a wonderful mix of Magic, romance and adventure. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes those qualities. P.S. my sis (theneverendingshelf.com) has a Recommend Me post about it over at her blog (but she's crazy, because she likes the movie better.) Ha Ha but I digress, Both the book and movie are splendid and I recommend both. I give the book a 4/5

Author: Richelle Mead

Publication: August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

Back of Book Summary:

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi Princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires-the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedication to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger... and Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever...

My review:

First of all I just want to say the back of book summary is a little off.

I don't know if this is considered a spoiler or not but , well, just be warned lest you feel the book will be ruined.

First of all, in the book, element magic among Moroi is not rare. In fact all of the Moroi have an element connection, they can use all but they really only specialize in one (most of the time. There are few exceptions but I would not want to give away). Second, the school is for any Moroi not just royals like the back of the book said.
Third and last, the Strigoi weren't even in the book that much I only remember reading how one was in there (in the present time) but other then that, none. They just talked about them a lot and also the Srigoi were hell-bent on getting any Moroi not just Lissa sooo... a little over exaggeration there.

End of what might be a spoiler but I still don't think so. Just making sure you guys know. I was told more stuff than this from my sis and it didn't ruin the book. ANYWAYS! time for the real review:

I really really liked this book. When my sis (www.theneverendingshelf.com) told me about it I was kind of skeptical. Not because of the story line but because it was Vampires AGAIN. I'm definitely glad I read it though. I could barely put it down and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Besides who can ever REALLY get enough of vampires? I was just expecting this to be similar to twilight with different vampire categories. But it was better than that. The main character Rose protects her full Vampire best friend, instead of cowering like a pansy, and she takes more risks and tries to have fun (Though I don't completely agree with her idea of fun). Plus Rose's personal trainer is completely hot! You'll find out about him in the book if you read it OR if you already read it, you know what I'm talking about! Over all I'll only give it a 4/5 because there are some things that bother me in the book, like the way Lissa deals with her problems, that irritates me.

Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews

Flowers in the Attic (Dollanganger #1)

Author: V.C. Andrews

Publication: November 10th 2009 by Simon Pulse (first published 2005) (Flowers in the Attic first Published in 1979) (Petals on the Wind first published in 1980)

Goodreads Summary: (of Flowers in the Attic)
It was a case of tender, loving murder.

The four children had perfect lives. They lived in a golden family filled with happiness. But when their father dies suddenly, their mother throws themselves on the mercy of her parents - who had disowned her long ago.

Their mother promised they would stay only long enough to inherit the fortune. But gradually she forgot how much she adored her family. Kept hidden in the airless attic, the children now lived alone except for fleeting visits from their mother. Visits that became increasing infrequent... and increasingly deadly...

Flowers in the Attic: the compelling story of a family's betrayal and heartbreak, love and revenge.

(I corrected some errors in the above Summary spelling only)

My Review:

Wow Flowers in the Attic was a mix of amazing, heartbreaking, and revolting. It was a really good, well written book. It makes a lot of sad scenes in new YA books look like the happiest moments ever! I'm not saying all, just some. This book made me cry quite a few times and if you know me then you know that I don't cry about every sad little thing I read or see. I've heard there are five books in the Dollanganger series and I just don't know if I CAN read the rest. It was really good but REALLY sad. I bought an edition that came with the second book as well but I've only the heart so far to read the first one. This is a really good book and I'm going to TRY to read the rest in the series just so I can see if it at least ends up somewhat happy. I'll give it a nice 4.5/5
